About Belo Horizonte

The UN Population Crisis Committee has considered Belo Horizonte a metropolis with an amazing quality of life. Out of the best 100 cities in the world, it was ranked 45th. The city also received a diploma and praise for its environmental awareness. With more than three million inhabitants, the capital of Minas Gerais, which also has made significant strides in its fashion and financial sectors, perfectly unites tradition with modernity. While successfully maintaining its architectural beauty, the city has made modern-day advances. For these reasons and more, Beagá is a pleasant and beautiful destination. If you want to learn more about life and history in the area check out Art Museum of Pampulha, one of the area’s premiere cultural institutions. Initially designed to become a casino in the early 1940’s, the building serves as the landmark of Brazil’s modern architecture. This is only one of the available attractions for your viewing. The climate of Belo Horizonte is mild, with an average temperature of 21’C. The capital is easily accessible by car and plane, and serves as the gateway to the historic cities of Minas Gerais, Ouro Preto and Mariana.

Art and Culture in Historic Cities

The historic cities of Minas Gerais offer a true lesson in baroque art and culture. Churches, museums and colonial mansions are worth touring. Beginning in Belo Horizonte, the state’s capital, you’ll want to see other cities like Ouro Preto, Mariana, São João Del Rei, Tiradentes, Diamantina, and others.

Only 99 kilometers away from Belo Horizonte and labeled, “Culture and Historical Human Heritage” by Unesco, the city of Ouro Preto has the best and most preserved collection of baroque art in Brazil. Its cold climate creates an atmosphere of mystery, attracting tourists from all parts of the world. The old capital of the State of Vila Rica, Ouro Preto is the country’s most important historic center. Among its churches are the Museu da Inconfidência, the São Francisco Church and the Casa dos Contos. Ouro Preto is famous for its slopes that end at the Pico do Itacolomi. In addition, its uneven topography allows for many sightseeing spots with panoramic views of the churches and colonial houses.

If you’re curious about the area’s culinary side look no further. Typical dishes of black beans with bacon and manioc flower, chicken with okra and other specialties (like homemade sweets and liquors) and a number of other delights grace the region’s menu.

Like the historical cities of Minas Gerais, the hotel infrastructure is capable of receiving tourists, especially in holiday season and during religious festivities like the Holy Week in April.

Not far away is Mariana. Nature was generous with Mariana, and offered abundance and minerals to this city that attracted pioneers looking for gold nuggets in its rivers. For that reason, the city was founded by these pioneers, and is known as the oldest in Minas.
